Experience

I am qualified as a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist and Specialist in Land Condition. Having worked as a Commercial Director in a large environmental and engineering consultancy for a number of years my technical background is supplemented by a range of skills in areas such as contract management, commercial strategy and corporate risk governance.

My experience includes the leadership of multi-disciplinary teams responsible for delivering large scale engineering, development and infrastructure projects. Prior to working in a freelance capacity, I was the Commercial Director in the executive leadership team for the AECOM Arup Joint Venture company established specifically for delivering National Grid's major onshore Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment projects as part of the Great Grid Partnership programme of works.

Previously, operational roles have included the establishment and leadership of AECOM's Environmental Contracting business, developed for the delivery of large-scale ground investigations (including Lower Thames Crossing) and the turnkey design and delivery of a range of decommissioning, remediation and ground engineering projects for key clients.

Initially, I trained as a Geotechnical Engineer and later went on to complete a post graduate MSc in Hydrogeology. My geotechnical experience includes: earthworks, traditional foundation design, piling, analysis of retaining walls and basements, and groundwater control.

I have extensive experience of the investigation and assessment of land affected by contamination including the assessment of former gasworks, chemical facilities and landfill sites, and the development of cost effective sustainable solutions for remedial works. My skills include detailed quantitative risk assessment for human health and controlled waters, waste management and support for environmental impact assessment. I am registered as a Suitably Qualified Person under the National Quality Mark Scheme.

My experience includes the design and delivery of numerous ground contamination remediation projects. These include projects incorporating a range of remedial solutions including: earthworks and capping systems, ex situ remedial technology, and in situ treatment techniques such as soil vapour extraction, thermal treatment, enhanced reductive dechlorination and monitored natural attenuation.

In recent years I have focussed more on commercial management and governance. My roles have included: providing training to project teams on NEC forms of contract; administration of contracts / sub-contracts; strategic bid support; risk reviews and the commercial oversight of major projects.
